  Burmese medicine box

 

Myanmar

Burmese medicine boxes are now considered antique and have become a collector's item. They are cylindrical in shape and consist of a large reservoir at the centre, surrounded by a collection of usually twelve smaller tubular containers.

 

They are made from wood and lacquer (fig.), and are usually decorated, some even covered with gold leaf. They typically have caps that are carved in the form of protective sprits called nats.
