Myanmar

One Burmese hairstyle worn by women of the past and occasionally still observed today during traditional festivals or at weddings, consists of an elongated hair tuft that is tied together with a ribbon and held together at the base with a strap, which may be decorative, as seen here, in the form of a lotus-shaped coronet, reminiscent of the dbu rgyan worn by certain Chinese  monks (fig.).

The tuft is erected at the top of the head and folds back downward forming a loop. The Bagan Archaeological Museum (fig.), located in Old Bagan, has an extensive collection of wigs in similar styles, as worn throughout history, on display. It also often appears in Burmese iconography.
