  Crested Partridges

PREVIOUS BIRD NEXT BIRD Thailand

Crested Partridges in a private garden of a hotel in Chumphon. The female has a deep-green body, with brown wings and a dark grey hood.

Like the male, it has black frontal bristles, but less noticeable as those in the male, whose head is in addition adorned with a tall chestnut-maroon crest (fig.). Unlike the male, the female has no white spot or crest. The somewhat larger male is metallic bluish-green above, glossy greyish-blue to blackish below, and has brownish wings, which are less outstanding than those in the female.

Both sexes have a crimson patch of bare skin around the eye and red legs without a spur. The bill of the female is all-dark (fig.), but that of the male is blackish with some red near the base.
