The Kambawzathardi Palace in Bago is the former home of King Bayinnaung the Great, who in Thai is known as Bureng Nong (บุเรงนอง) and whom is described as the most popular of all Burmese kings.

Also known as the  Golden Palace, it was built in 1553, two years into the reign of this king, who established an empire that stretched from the borders of India to parts of Thailand and Laos.
