	Karuppu is a Tamil deity often found in
		
		
		
        Hindu-Tamil 
	temples,  
	
	standing upright
			and holding a sword in one hand and 
	
			leaning on a mace with the other hand (fig.).
			
			Though 
	usually portrayed with a black, grey or greyish-blue complexion, 
	and his hair plaited in a 
	thick tuft that hangs over to one side, 
	he here has a much paler complexion, reminiscent of his counterpart 
			
	
	Muneeswarar, i.e. Manishvara 
	(fig.).
