The coat of arms 
of  
	Nakhon Sri Thammarat shows the chedi of
 
			Wat Mahathat Wora Maha Wihaan 
(fig.) with a halo and surrounded by the twelve 
animals of the Chinese  
zodiac (fig.). The aureole 
refers to the fact that the spire of this chedi 
is made from pure gold. The zodiac refers to the twelve protectorates each of
which has a sign from the Chinese zodiac as its logo. These are clockwise: 
Saiburi (the rat), Pattani (the ox), Klantan (the tiger), Pahang (the rabbit), 
Traiburi, read Saiburi, (the  
        
		dragon), Phattalung (the snake), Trang (the horse), 
Chumphon (the goat), Banthai Semoh (the monkey), Songkhla (the cock), Takuapah (the
