  Nanmyin Watchtower

Myanmar

Nanmyin Watchtower, the Leaning Tower of Ava, in Inwa. Whereas the 18 meter high masonry part of the edifice is original, the wooden sala-style structure with pyatthat-like roof on the top was added later and increases the tower's height to 27 meter. As palace pavilions were built of wood, the tower is all that today remains of the palace built by King Bagyidaw, the 7th king of the Konbaung Dynasty (1819-1837 AD).

The precarious tilt of the tower is a result of an earthquake that shook the area in 1838 and also shattered the upper portion of the tower.
