PROVINCIAL ESCUTCHEON

Phetchaburi

The escutcheon of Phetchaburi shows parcels of farmland with palm trees and in the background a hill with a building. The fields point to the natural richness of the region that mainly consists of the cultivation of rice. The palm trees are sugar palms that are abundant in this province. The hill is the 92 meter high Khao Samon or Khao Wang (fig.) on which king Rama IV (Phra Chom Klao) ordered the construction of a complex of buildings, including the chedi Phrathat Chom Petch (Jom Pet) that overarches the old chedi. On the top of the hill, are a large prang, a royal hall and the Phra Nakhon Khiri palace (fig.).
