With a height of 72.5 meters, Qutub Minar in the Indian capital Delhi is the highest tower in India and the world's tallest brick minaret. It is notable not only for its size, but also for being one of the earliest and most prominent examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. It is part of the Quwwat-al-Islam Mosque.

It was built in 1192 AD by Qutub-uddin Aibak, the first Muslim ruler of Delhi, and is made for the most part from sandstone.

On the outside, the minaret, as well as some of the other edifices, such as the here depicted walls of the Alai Darwaza, are decorated with calligraphic inscriptions in Kufic, a style of Arabic script with straight often elongated lines and sharp angles, that quote verses from the Koran.
