NAKHON RATCHASIMA ZOO (KORAT ZOO)

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, also known as Korat Zoo, is a wild animal park administered under the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand. It is located on a 545 rai plot of land, some 19 km from the city centre of Nakhon Ratchasima. It claims to host more than 1,500 animals and some 200 species from around the world, with an effort made to house the animals in accommodation and cages similar to their natural habitat. Since the climate of Nakhon Ratchasima is similar to that of the natural wildlife of the Savanna, the zoo focuses for a large part on animals from Africa. The first stop in the video is at the enclosure with reptiles and amphibians, including turtles and tortoises, and uniquely we were able to film two Oriental Rat Snakes mating; next are the monkeys and apes, and though we didn't spot any of the chimpanzee, we did capture the Red-shanked Douc Langurs and several kinds of gibbons swinging in the trees, of which the black with white ones are males and the reddish buff ones females; arriving at the aviaries we first see pink Greater Flamingos and reddish Caribbean Flamingos but there are cages with many other species of bird, including also hornbills; besides some lemurs, African goats, and an African buffalo, we also came across an African elephant, which oddly looked rather orange, and some Arabian camels; then we arrived at Dino Land, a Jurassic Park-like area with edifices of all kinds of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals, complete with info plaques on their names and characteristics; then we came at a section with all kinds of deer; and then passed by some large cats, such as leopards, tigers and lions; and finally some sun bears and rhinos. Besides this, there the zoo also has aquatic animals, and many other kinds of mammals.
