The escutcheon of
		      Yala shows quarry-men mining for
tin and points to the fact that
this ore is the natural resource of the region and the main activity of its
inhabitants. The chain of mountains in the background is Yalo mountain
range, Yala being the name given by the local population
in their dialect. Yalo for its part is derived from a specific rock formation
found in this mountain range.
