On markets in Thailand, khai yiew mah, that are also known as khai samphao (fig.), are easy recognizable by their pink coloured egg shells.

The pink is used to distinguish them from other duck eggs, such as ordinary duck eggs and salted duck eggs, which are left in their natural colour (fig.).
