Ayutthaya

The coat of arms of Ayutthaya shows a sumwimaan (fig.),, i.e. a kind of prasat noi or small sanctuary, underneath a tree and in the middle opening, a waen fah with a sang, the conch of victory. Legend has it that when King U-Thong in 1347 wanted to build a new city in the district of Nong Sohn, the workers dug up a pure white conch. This was seen as a good omen and the king ordered a sanctuary built to house the conch.
