Cricula Silkmoth

Common designation for a large moth, with the scientific name Cricula trifenestrata. It has a wingspan of 6.5 to 10 centimeters, which are brown to reddish in colour, with a darker stripe across both the fore and hind wings. The fore wings of males have two small spots on them, of which the upper one is mostly dark, the lower mostly whitish, whereas the hind wings have just one, mostly blackish spot. Females are similar, but the spots are larger in size and overall white in colour, with one additional or third spot on the fore wings. In Thai, known as phi seua non avocado (ผีเสื้อหนอนอะโวกาโด), i.e. ‘avocado caterpillar moth’. See also WILDLIFE PICTURES.
