  Phra Phutta Mettaprachathai

Thailand

With a height of 32 meters, symbolizing the 32 lakshana, i.e. the auspicious  signs of a great man, especially the 32 major marks described in Buddhist literature from which the predestination of a buddha may be recognized at birth, Phra Phutta Mettaprachathai at Wat Thipsukhontharam (fig.) in Kanchanaburi, is Thailand's largest bronze Buddha image in a standing pose.

It is cast in the Greco-Buddhist Gandhara style (fig.) and is performing a varada mudra (fig.). The statue was built in 2011-2012, in remembrance of the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan, which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001.
