  Phra Phutta Monthon

Thailand

The 2,500 krabiad (15.875 meters) high Phra Phutta Monthon image in Nakhon Pathom represents a walking Buddha, which is typically depicted with a vitarka mudra. The image stands in a 2,500 rai (ca. 400 hectare) landscaped park of the same name (fig.). The height of the Buddha image, as well as the size of the park, symbolically represent the year 2500 and were built in 1957 (2500 BE) to commemorate the celebration of 25th Century of the Buddhist Era (fig.).
