  Siddhartha at birth

A statue of Prince Siddhartha, i.e. the Buddha-to-be, at Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao (fig.) in Lampang, representing the scene immediately after his Phrasoot (fig.) or royal birth (fig.), which is in Buddhist iconography depicted as a boy standing upright and holding his right arm and index finger in the air, and at which time the newborn is said to have taken seven steps and that at each step where he touched the ground a lotus blossomed (fig.).
