The launch of Thailand's first satellite, i.e. a HS 376 communications satellite, on 17 December 1993, from the Guiana Space Centre near Kourou in French Guiana, with an Ariane 4 rocket and officially named THAICOM by King Bhumiphon. In the background is the Thai national tricolor, as well as the world globe, with the landmasses in green, the oceans in blue, and the map of Thailand highlighted in white.
