  wood-apples

Sri Lanka

Wood-apples are fruits found in subtropical and tropical southern Asia, with a hard, wooden rind, hence its common name.

In order to consume the fruit, the hard rind needs to be cracked open. It contains a sticky brown pulp with small pale seeds and tastes either sweet or sour. In the latter case, it is usually eaten with some sugar, as seen in this picture made in Negombo.
