Nang yai uses large sheets of leather cowhide (nang) elaborately carved into framed images, often from the Ramakien. This one shows Phra Ram (fig.) in his chariot, accompanied by Hanuman (fig.).

 

Either side normally has a wooden handle to hold the image up and to prevent the leather sheet from bending. This one shows Phra In (fig.) on his white elephant Erawan (fig.).
