 It represents the Buddha with his arms 
hanging at his side, with one hand holding onto his robe and the other holding a 
small nutlike sphere between thumb and middle finger, which is described to be a
sa-moh (fig.), 
i.e. the medicinal fruit of the gall-nut tree and used as a herbal medicine. The 
pose is hence believed to represent the Buddha offering the
		      
		      
              
		      dhamma  
as a cure for suffering.
