The main entrance to the Headquarters of the

Royal Thai Armed Forces in

		Bangkok's
	Laksi District. Here, at its
	entrance, stands a monument
	of King

	Naresuan the
	Great (fig.)
	on the back of his

	war elephant (fig.),
which is also shown on a Thai postage stamp issued in 1984 to mark Armed
	Force Day (fig.),
celebrated annually on 18 January, to commemorate the victory of King
Naresuan, which took place on 18 January 1593.
Despite its strong similarity to the Suriyothai battle elephant
			memorial (fig.)
			at

	Thung Makhaam Yong,
			near

	Ayutthaya,
			this monument at the
			 			entrance to the
Royal Thai Armed Forces HQ in Bangkok reportedly represents
King Naresuan. The roof of the
main office building features a large star,
			fashioned
			akin to those used to
indicate ranks for officers of the Royal Thai Army and Air Force (fig.).
