  Wat Sorasak

Thailand

Wat Sorasak, sometimes referred to as Wat Chang Lom, is an ancient temple in Sukhothai Historical Park, located within and alongside the northern part of the city wall. It was constructed in 1417 AD, during the reign of Oukyah Dhammaracha.

It is noticeable for its bell shaped chedi, of which the square base is surrounded by 24 caryatid-like figures in the form of White Elephants. The auspicious elephants lifting the burden of the chedi are believed to stand as an allegory for Buddhism, which was firmly upheld throughout time.
