  Wax Candle Festival

Thailand

A vivid Thian Pansa templebound procession in Chiang Mai's Mae Taeng district at the beginning of Pansa, the Thai Buddhist Lent. This motorcade of rot kraba is adorned with northern style tung (fig.), as well as with royal and thong thammachak Buddhist flags (fig.).

Apart from the elaborately carved candles most cars taking part in the Wax Candle Festival are also decorated with naga (fig.) heads, flowers and pictures of King Bhumipon, flanked by silver and gold chattra (fig.), akin to silver and gold trees (fig.).
